Planning an Upgrade

Why Businesses Move to LED

Lighting is one of the few upgrades on a commercial site with a return you can point at. Older fluorescent battens and metal halide high bays draw heavily for every hour the doors are open, and they need relamping on a cycle.

On a high ceiling that maintenance is often the bigger cost. Changing a lamp in a warehouse means hiring access equipment, so a fitting that lasts for years instead of months takes a recurring job off the list entirely.

There's a second benefit in a customer-facing space. Colour temperature and rendering change how a room reads and how products and food look under it, which is worth choosing deliberately instead of inheriting from whatever was installed last.

  • Lower running cost across every hour you're open
  • Fittings that last years instead of needing relamping
  • Light levels matched to what the space is used for
  • Colour temperature chosen to suit a customer-facing room
  • Emergency and exit fittings installed or replaced

How We Work

Better Light, Lower Running Cost

We walk the site, look at what's installed and what each area is used for, then quote the changeover clearly. A warehouse aisle, a workshop bench, a retail display and an office desk all want different light levels and different colour temperature, so matching them is most of the difference between adequate lighting and good lighting.

Where the existing circuits and switching can be reused, the job is quicker and cheaper. Where the switching is grouped so a whole floor comes on at once, separating it is usually worth doing at the same time.

Most changeovers only need the lighting circuit isolated for the area being worked on, so it can generally be done section by section rather than all at once. We'll set out how we'd sequence it at the quote.

We also install and replace emergency and exit light fittings. If you're unsure what your premises needs, ask and we can talk through what's typically expected.

Asked Questions

Commercial Lighting Questions

  • On a commercial site, usually. The power saving is significant on its own, and the maintenance saving is often larger where fittings are high enough to need access equipment for relamping. We can go through the numbers for your site at the quote.

  • Generally yes, area by area. Most changeovers only require isolating the lighting circuit for the section being worked on, which is far less disruptive than a full shutdown. In a retail or hospitality space it's still worth picking a quieter period.

  • Yes, we install, replace and repair emergency and exit light fittings. If you're unsure what your premises requires or where the responsibility sits under your lease, ask and we can talk through what's typically expected.

  • Yes, and it's worth doing instead of replacing like for like. A warehouse aisle, a workshop bench, a retail display and an office desk all want different levels and different colour temperature. Getting that right is most of the difference between adequate lighting and good lighting.

  • Often. Where the existing circuits and switch positions suit the new layout, reusing them keeps the cost down. Where a whole area comes on with one switch, splitting it while the fittings are being changed is usually worth doing at the same time.

  • It comes down to the number of fittings, the ceiling height and access, and whether the existing circuits and switching can be reused. Doing a whole area in one visit is considerably cheaper than replacing fittings as they fail. Quotes are free.
