We were so lucky that some friends recommended Liam. He's friendly, thoughtful, interested in solving problems, in a way that makes him a delight to deal with. We couldn't be happier with the results of his work and unlike other sparkies we've worked with, he turns up on time and even came back on his day off to make sure everything was working as it should. His prices are fair, and his work is of a very high standard. Couldn't be happier. We will definitely be hiring Liam for all future work in our house.

Lighting Questions
Almost always. LEDs use a fraction of the power, last far longer and run cool, which matters because halogen downlights push a lot of heat into the ceiling space. If several have already failed, the rest are usually close behind, so doing them together works out cheaper than replacing them one at a time.
Often yes, and where they do the job is quick with no patching. Where the new fitting is a different diameter we can usually work with a plate or adjust the opening. You hear which applies at the quote, not once the ceiling is open.
Yes, provided there is access above the ceiling or a sensible route to run cable. That is the first thing we check. If a position would mean cutting into a wall or ceiling that then needs patching, we tell you before the work starts.
Lighting used to shape a room rather than only to light it. Concealed strip lighting behind a panelled wall, above cabinetry, under a bulkhead or along a stair. It is normally run on its own switch so you can use it by itself in the evening.
Yes. Old fittings and any redundant transformers come out as part of the job instead of being left sitting in the ceiling space, and the area is cleaned up before we finish.
It depends on the number of fittings, whether the positions already exist and how accessible the ceiling space is. A straight changeover is quick. New positions and concealed lighting take longer. We look at it, price it, and only start once you have agreed.
Lighting Work Explained
Indoor Lighting and Switching
Lighting problems are rarely only about the fitting. A room can be well lit on paper and still feel wrong because everything is on one switch, or because the light sits behind you when you are working at the bench.
Replacing failed fittings is the straightforward half. The half worth thinking about is deciding what goes where and what gets grouped together, so a living area can be bright when you need it and low in the evening without reaching for a lamp.

Halogen downlights were installed in volume through the two thousands and they all reach the end of their life around the same time. That is why the first failure is usually followed by several more within a year.
An LED changeover gives brighter and whiter light for a fraction of the power, and it takes a real amount of heat out of the ceiling space. Doing the house in one visit costs less than replacing fittings individually as they go.
View LED Lighting & Downlights →Feature and Strip Lighting
Concealed lighting is what makes a renovated room look finished. A strip run behind a panelled wall, above overhead cabinets or under a bulkhead throws light onto a surface, not into your eyes, and the effect is far softer than another downlight.
What counts here: hidden: where the strip stops and starts, where the driver sits so it can be reached later, and which switch it lands on. Those get worked out before installation instead of during it.
