Has Your Power Started Cutting Out?
It usually starts small. A safety switch trips while you are cooking, so you flick it back on. A week later it goes again, then it starts happening every couple of days, and eventually it will not stay on at all.
Other versions are just as familiar. Half the powerpoints in a room have gone dead. Lights dim or flicker when an appliance kicks in. An outdoor light stops working every time it rains. A fitting buzzes, or there is a faint burning smell near a switch.
None of that is random. A safety switch trips because it has detected current leaking where it should not be, and resetting it only clears the symptom. The longer it goes on, the more likely you are dealing with damaged cable, water in a fitting or an appliance that is getting worse rather than better.
- A safety switch or breaker that keeps tripping and will not stay on
- Powerpoints or lights that have gone dead in part of the house
- Lights that flicker or dim when an appliance starts up
- Outdoor fittings or shed circuits that fail after rain
- Buzzing fittings, warm faceplates or a burning smell near a switch or outlet

Get Your Power Back On and Know Why It Failed
The result you want is simple: everything working again, and confidence it will not happen next week. That comes from finding the actual cause instead of resetting the switch and hoping.
We start at the switchboard and isolate circuits one at a time, then test each one and reconnect appliances progressively until the fault shows itself. That narrows it from somewhere in the house down to a specific circuit and a specific point on it. From there we can tell you whether you are looking at a failed appliance, a damaged cable, water in an outdoor fitting or a connection that has worked loose.
Once we know, you get the repair explained and priced before it happens. Straightforward repairs such as a damaged outlet, a failed fitting or a loose connection are usually done on the same visit. Larger work such as replacing a run of damaged cable is quoted first so you can decide.
We also leave the switchboard labelled. If something does go wrong later, you can isolate the right circuit yourself instead of turning the whole house off.

We were so lucky that some friends recommended Liam. He's friendly, thoughtful, interested in solving problems, in a way that makes him a delight to deal with. We couldn't be happier with the results of his work and unlike other sparkies we've worked with, he turns up on time and even came back on his day off to make sure everything was working as it should. His prices are fair, and his work is of a very high standard. Couldn't be happier. We will definitely be hiring Liam for all future work in our house.

Fault Finding Questions
Leave the affected circuit switched off at the switchboard instead of resetting it repeatedly. Note down what was running when it first tripped, whether it happens at a particular time of day or after rain, and which lights or powerpoints are affected. That information often shortens the search considerably.
Intermittent tripping usually points to something that only draws current or gets wet some of the time. Hot water elements, fridges and freezers, pumps, outdoor lighting and roof space wiring are common causes because they cycle on and off or are exposed to weather. Because it is intermittent it takes longer to confirm, which is why testing under load matters.
Most faults are identified during the visit. Intermittent faults that only appear under certain conditions, such as after heavy rain or when a specific appliance cycles, can take longer to confirm. If that happens we tell you what we have ruled out, what the likely cause is and what the next step would cost before going any further.
Yes, and that is most of this work. We isolate and test circuits individually, so we do not need to have wired the house to trace where a problem is coming from. Older homes that have been added to over the years are common and we work on them regularly.
Where the parts are on the van and the repair is straightforward, yes. Damaged outlets, failed fittings and loose connections are usually sorted on the spot. Larger repairs such as replacing a run of damaged cable are quoted first and booked in.
It depends on how much testing the fault takes to isolate and how accessible the affected wiring is. A faulty appliance or a damaged outdoor fitting is quick. A cable damaged inside a wall or roof space takes longer. We give you the cost of the repair once we know what is causing it, and nothing goes ahead until you approve it.
