Switchboard opened up during repair work
The Problem

The Jobs That Have Been on the List for Months

Every house accumulates them. A light switch that needs pressing twice. An outlet in the spare room that stopped working and nobody got around to. A fitting in the hallway that has been hanging slightly crooked since the last tenant.

Individually none of them are urgent, which is exactly why they sit there. The problem is that a few of them are early signs of something worth catching. A switch that has become intermittent is often a connection working loose, and loose connections generate heat.

There is also the category nobody thinks about at all, because nothing appears to be wrong. Safety switches that have never been tested. Connections at the switchboard that have slowly worked loose. Circuits added over the years by different hands with no record of what goes where.

  • Switches or outlets that work intermittently
  • Light fittings that flicker, buzz or have stopped altogether
  • Circuits with no labelling, so isolating one area means turning the house off
  • Safety switches that have never been tested
  • Wiring added in stages over the years with no clear record

The Solution

Clear the List in One Visit

The efficient way to handle repairs is to stop treating them one at a time. Write down everything around the house that is not working properly, send us the list, and we quote the lot together.

That is genuinely cheaper than separate call-outs, and it means the small things actually get done instead of waiting for something bigger to force the issue.

The maintenance side is worth adding while we are there. Testing that safety switches actually trip, checking connections at the switchboard, looking over outdoor and shed circuits that sit exposed to weather, and labelling the board so the next problem is faster to isolate.

If we find something that needs attention, you get told what is urgent and what can reasonably wait. Nothing gets done without you agreeing to it first.

Asked Questions

Repairs and Maintenance Questions

  • Yes, considerably. Most of the cost of a small job is getting someone to the property, so four small repairs in one visit costs far less than four separate call-outs. Write the list down as things come up instead of calling each time.

  • It is worth looking at. An intermittent switch is usually a connection that has worked loose or contacts that have worn, and loose connections generate heat. It is a quick repair now and a more annoying one later.

  • Testing that the safety switches actually trip when they should, checking connections at the switchboard, looking over the condition of visible wiring, outlets and fittings, and checking outdoor and shed circuits that sit exposed to weather. You get told what needs attention and what does not.

  • It is worth knowing what state it is in before you commit, particularly on an older property where work has been done in stages. We can look at the switchboard, the visible wiring and the safety switch arrangement and tell you what we find.

  • Yes. We work for owners and landlords on repairs, safety switch and smoke alarm work and general maintenance between tenancies, and we can deal with the property manager or tenant directly for access if that is easier.

  • We are based in Berwick and cover the City of Casey, Cardinia Shire and the Baw Baw Shire towns of Drouin and Warragul. That includes Narre Warren, Cranbourne, Clyde, Endeavour Hills, Hampton Park, Hallam, Officer, Pakenham, Beaconsfield, Emerald, Gembrook and Bunyip.
