Are the Approaches to the House Dark?
The parts of a property that need light are rarely the parts that have it. The front door has a light. The side gate, the back corner, the path from where you park and the shed behind the house usually have nothing.
That matters for the obvious reason and for a more mundane one: carrying shopping in from the car in the dark, or trying to find the keyhole on the side door in winter.
Where sensor lights do exist, they often annoy more than they help. A sensor aimed across a driveway triggers on every passing car, and a light that comes on all night eventually gets switched off at the board and forgotten.
- Side gates, paths and back corners with no lighting at all
- A sensor light that triggers constantly on passing traffic
- A sensor light that has stopped coming on entirely
- Walking from the car to the door in the dark
- A shed or back fence line that is invisible at night

Light That Comes On When It Should
Security lighting works because of where it is aimed, not how bright it is. A well placed sensor covers the approach to a door or a driveway and lights it before someone reaches it, which is the entire point.
The setup is the part that usually gets skipped. Sensitivity, timing and aim all need adjusting on site with the light actually installed, otherwise you end up with something that triggers on the neighbour's cat or never triggers at all.
We work out the positions with you first: which approaches matter, where a light would cover two things at once, and where a fitting would shine into a bedroom window and become a problem.
Everything goes in with fittings and enclosures rated for permanent outdoor exposure, because a sensor light that fills with water is the most common reason they stop working.

We were so lucky that some friends recommended Liam. He's friendly, thoughtful, interested in solving problems, in a way that makes him a delight to deal with. We couldn't be happier with the results of his work and unlike other sparkies we've worked with, he turns up on time and even came back on his day off to make sure everything was working as it should. His prices are fair, and his work is of a very high standard. Couldn't be happier. We will definitely be hiring Liam for all future work in our house.

Security Lighting Questions
Normally the sensitivity setting or the aim. A sensor pointed across a driveway or at a tree that moves in the wind will trigger constantly. Repositioning and adjusting it usually solves it, and it is a quick job.
It depends what failed. Water in the fitting is the most common cause and is often the end of that unit, particularly on older fittings. We test it and tell you whether a repair makes sense or whether replacing it is the better value.
Fewer than most people expect, if they are positioned well. One light covering the approach to a door and part of the path is worth more than three lights aimed at nothing in particular. We work out the positions with you at the quote.
Yes, and a combination often works best. A sensor light for the approaches and a switched light you can leave on when you are expecting someone or using the yard in the evening.
Not if it is aimed properly, and that is one of the things worth thinking about before it goes up, not after. We check the throw of each fitting on site and adjust it.
It depends on the number of fittings, how far each is from a suitable circuit and whether cable has to be run around the property. We look at it, plan the positions and quote the job. Quotes are free.
